Why do you need PriorityChannel?
Conventional Industrial Ethernet solutions have difficulty dealing with critical messages when network traffic increases, resulting in unpredictable packet delays, excessive latency, or even connection failure. PriorityChannel utilizes the unique, patented architecture of the fido1100 communication controller to separate non real-time Ethernet traffic from real-time Industrial Ethernet message processing. This is not just a special queue or sophisticated filtering. The silicon provides a separate data pathway and a separate on-chip execution environment for real-time messages to tunnel straight to the device application. Non real-time messages can never interrupt real-time messages making it possible to stay well within 160 µs of the desired EtherNet/IP cycle time, and within 10 µs of the desired Profinet cycle time. Just like the “fast lane” on the Autobahn, PriorityChannel quickly passes real-time messages between the network wire and the device application on-time, every time.

FASTEST TIME TO MARKET – MINIMAL DEVELOPMENT TIME
The RapID™ (Rapid Interface Development) Platform solution is available in several forms to meet your needs. The Universal Gateway is a DIL plug-in module that uses a serial connection to a host CPU and can be adapted to convert any existing serial protocol to EtherNet/IP or Profinet (eg. convert Modbus RTU to Profinet). The Network Interface is a plug-in module including PHY and RJ45 connectors and either a serial or 16-bit parallel connection to the host. The Network Interface is also available as an embedded design with schematics, BOM and firmware that you can add into your own board. In both cases the Network Interface uses a common abstraction API that allows you to connect either Profinet or EtherNet/IP to the same host with no software changes needed on the host. Each of the above solutions includes all the necessary hardware, firmware and stacks to take care of the EtherNet/IP or Profinet protocol and there are NO LICENSE FEES or ROYALTIES with these products. To further minimize your development time, the identical schematic and hardware supports both EtherNet/IP and Profinet. So when you have developed a product supporting one of these protocols, you can very quickly develop a second product that supports the other protocol with only a firmware change. For more sophisticated applications or standalone applications with no host CPU, a complete Developer Solution is available with a one time upfront license fee. The Developer Solutions for EtherNet/IP and Profinet includes all schematics, bill of materials, design tools, software, stacks and example code to allow the fastest time to market. All of the RapID Platform products include an embedded Ethernet switch for daisy-chain or line network topologies.

The RapID platform is based around the Innovasic fido1100 communications processor chip. This chip handles all of the network traffic, packet processing and stack protocols so that you don’t have to worry about those when designing your product. The fido1100 chip has been in production at Innovasic for more than four years and is well proven in many end use products developed by our customers. We guarantee that your product will pass conformance testing – we have already “pre-certified” the design and our customers have already passed conformance testing with their end devices based on the RapID Platform for both EtherNet/IP and Profinet. Finally, the unique architecture of the fido1100 chip with PriorityChannel technology assures robust, real-time traffic management that can differentiate your products from the competition.
