Innovasic
Who is Innovasic Semiconductor?
We are an ISO9001-certified, fabless semiconductor company and we are focused on serving long life-cycle electronic equipment manufacturers. The company was founded in 1992 and over the years we have completed over 150 IC designs and shipped over a million ICs. The majority of our designs have been microcontrollers, peripherals and custom ICs developed to replace products that were discontinued by the original manufacturer. We have recently expanded our product family to include a line of new microcontrollers designed to meet the product development needs of long life-cycle embedded system designers.
Who are your customers?
We have successfully served hundreds of customers including Rockwell Automation, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Invensys, ABB, Siemens, Raytheon, Delphi, and Cummins.
What makes Innovasic Semiconductor different from other companies serving the embedded market?
We are totally dedicated to providing solutions for the long life-cycle embedded market. It’s all we do. Most semiconductor manufacturers don’t focus on this market because their strategy is to serve the larger consumer markets. For us, the long life-cycle market is a tremendous opportunity and is large enough to provide us with very strong growth for the foreseeable future.

What can Innovasic do to help solve obsolescence problems?
We offer a line of form, fit and function compatible Replacement IC products, available off the shelf. We also offer a custom design and development service providing a cost-effective alternative to last time purchases or system redesigns, when customers are faced with an IC obsolescence issue. We have provided many customers with this service for replacing both ASICs and standard ICs – digital, analog or mixed signal.
For new embedded product designs, our fido microcontroller family comes with a guarantee that we will provide an ongoing supply at least through 2020. We carried out a blind survey and found out that obsolescence was one of the biggest concerns facing designers of new embedded products. We know from first hand experience that our customers have had issues with some of the larger microcontroller suppliers who frequently discontinue specific versions of their product families that are not selling well into the short life-cycle consumer markets, leaving our customers to scramble for a solution.
How do you develop a pin-compatible Replacement IC?
We typically develop the part from scratch to meet the original data sheet specification using a “clean sheet” approach. We compare the performance of our part to samples of the original device, using proprietary software, to ensure compatibility. Sometimes the customer has access to the original design files, in which case we can convert the design to a different foundry in order to continue to manufacture the device. Through many years of experience, we have developed the necessary intellectual property, tools and capability to do this very efficiently. This also provides us with a very high first-pass success.
What are your plans for the obsolescence business going forward?
Innovasic has established a roadmap for the development of Replacement ICs going forward. We also respond directly to customer requests for obsolescence replacements. We plan to continue to develop and ship production replacements for microcontrollers and peripherals needed by our customers.
