The fido family of Communication Controllers and Industrial Ethernet Switches brings determinism, fault tolerance, and synchronization to any industrial application.

fido5000The fido5000 is a 10/100/1000 Ethernet switch that can be programmed to support virtually any Layer 2 or Layer 3 protocol.  The switch is personalized to support the desired protocol by firmware that is downloaded from a host processor.  The firmware is contained in the REM Switch driver, and is downloaded at power-up.  The REM Switch can be ready for network operation in less than 350ms in order to support Fast Start-Up and Quick Connect-type network functionality.

Any CPU, SoC or microcontroller can be interfaced with REM including any ARM® CPU or Innovasic’s own fido1100 communication controller. The CPU or microcontroller does not need its own Ethernet MAC port to interface with the REM Switch. Instead, the REM Swtich combines a 2 port Ethernet switch with a powerful memory bus interface that supports both 16- and 32-bit wide busses with data transfer rates up to 167 Mbytes/sec.

fido2100The fido2100 is a 3-port Ethernet switch designed to add fault tolerance and synchronization to Industrial Networks.

While the device handles standard line and star topologies, fault tolerance is achieved by using the switch in a ring configuration.  The protocol used to manage the ring is Device Level Ring (DLR).  Synchronization is achieved with or without using DLR by implementing the IEEE 1588v2 protocol.

Both DLR and 1588v2 have been designed to minimize the processing requirements on a companion communication controller.  Capabilities such as beacon-based DLR and backup node supervisor are handled on-chip.  For 1588v2, the transparent clock accounts for network latency or jitter and synchronizes the device without processor intervention.


fido chip 1100The fido1100 is a communication controller specifically architected for deterministic processing and flexible communication.

Deterministic processing is achieved by embedding the low-level capabilities of a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) in the silicon.  Flexible communication is achieved by integrating 4 Universal I/O Controllers in the silicon that can be programmed to implement any protocol.
